Listening Skills
Reasons
Why It Is Important for You to Listen Well
-
You want people to talk freely
and frankly to you. If they believe that you
don't listen to them when they have something
important to say, the lines of communication
will break down.
-
You want to know what is important
to them. If you listen attentively, they will
be more likely to share information with you.
This will help you communicate better on all
issues.
-
You want them to furnish you
with as much information as they can. It is
important to know what is going on all the time.
If people feel that you truly listen, they will
be more apt to keep you informed.
When
you listen effectively, you are telling people
several things:
-
I know this is important to you.
-
I am interested in you as a
person.
-
Even though I may not agree
with what you are saying, I respect your right
to say it.
-
I don't want to judge or evaluate;
I just want to understand you better.
-
I want you to feel free to discuss
anything with me.
